- What is npad?
You can think of npad as a piece of scrap paper that you can take anywhere. It's a lightweight way to keep track of little odds and ends in your life.
Best of all, it's totally integrated with your phone. You can save a note from anywhere in the world by sending a text message to n@npad.com -- your message will be waiting for you at npad.com. You can also search and retrieve your notes by text message. Click for more information on how to use the mobile features of npad.
There's no structure to the way you use this site, and that's what makes it so easy. If you want to make a bunch of lists, using your phone and the website, go right ahead. If you want to use it to take notes in class, and then retrieve them by text message later, go right ahead. If you only write notes from your phone, well, that's one of the best parts of npad, so have fun.

- What does it mean to "file" a note?
When you file a note, you don't delete it, but you hide it away in the "filed" section of npad and it disappears from the "active notes" page. We encourage you not to delete any of your notes. That way you'll have them handy if you need them a week from now, a month from now, or a year from now.

- What do tags do?
Tags are basically labels that help you categorize your notes.
A note can have as many tags as you want and you can apply the same tag to multiple notes.

- What shortcut keys are available?
You can use the 'n' and 'q' keys to add notes faster. Pressing 'n' will jump to the New Note page, and pressing 'q' will pop up a Quick Note box.
Before you can use shortcut keys, you'll need to enable them on the Preferences page.

- How do I make notes draggable?
You can enable note dragging on the Preferences page. This will allow you to drag notes to the list of tags on the left side of the page, as well as to the tabs at the top of the page.

- How do I interact with npad from my phone?
There are two ways to use npad from your phone: by text message, and by mobile web. In order to interact by text message, you have to give us your phone number first (so that when you text us we know who it's coming from). You can do this on the Preferences page in your account.
If your phone has a web browser, you can point it to http://www.npad.com/m and check out our mobile web interface.

It's actually not a number; it's an email address. Almost every mobile phone let's you send text messages to email addresses. Just open up a new text message and address it to n@npad.com (you may have to change the "Entry mode" on your phone so that it let's you type letters instead of numbers).

- It's no fun typing in "n@npad.com" every time. Is there an easier way?
Yes. Your phone should let you save n@npad.com as one of your phonebook contacts. That way sending npad a text message is just as easy as sending any of your friends a text message.

- How do I create a new note from my phone?
Send a text message to n@npad.com with any text you want. Within about 15 seconds, it will find its way through the tubes of the internet to npad.com. Try it out.

- How can I get search my notes from my phone?
Send a text message to n@npad.com that begins with a question mark character. Anything after the question mark is your search query. So if you send "? groceries" we'll send you back a list of search results that match the word "groceries," starting with the newest. Then you reply with the number of the search result, and we send you the note. Pretty simple.

- Can I attach files to my notes?
Not yet, but we're working on it! We hope to make this available very soon.

- npad isn't receiving my text messages. What can I do?
Make sure you have the npad email address correct. It's n@npad.com. If the site still isn't responding, there may be a text message backlog at your carrier. In this case, there's nothing to do except wait for the notes to come through. You can also try turning your phone off and on, which can clear up a memory clog.
If it's been a day and you're still having trouble, please write to us and let us know what's going on so we can take a look.
